Paediatric safety tips
Childhood emergencies are unavoidable. Though they can be minimised with due negligence and vigilance, you can’t prevent them completely. Children often get injured due to falls, or being struck with an object, due to burns, cuts, drowning, poisoning, and from insect and animal bites.
Childhood emergencies need to be handled properly as safety needs of children are different from adults. Children are different from adults in terms of their legal status, consent to treatment, mental capacity and level of understanding, physiology, range of diseases and disorders, and dependency on others.
In case your child gets burnt or he gets hurt due to falls or acquires any other injury, you must ensure that you have a first aid ready at your home. It is advisable to have emergency medical numbers with you. Teach your child how to use 911 so that he can get medical help in case you are present at home. Keep the medical history of the child handy as the health care providers may require that in case your child is allergic to any medicine or drug or if he suffers from any health disorder.
By taking a course in paediatric safety and first aid you would be able to understand the symptoms, recognise injuries, and administer first aid to your child in an effective manner.
